BELFAST — Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said tonight, Oct. 1, that the two men wanted for allegedly robbing a marijuana grower in Winterport turned themselves in.

“Jeff Hurd and Scott Roberts walked into the lobby of the Waldo County Jail in Belfast about 9 p.m. and surrendered,” said McCausland, in a news release. “They had been dropped off at the jail and are cooperating.  The third man involved in the robbery is now known and an arrest warrant for him will likely be issued this week.”

Maine State Police had issued arrest warrants for two of the three men accused of being involved last week in an armed robbery of medical marijuana plants from private property in Winterport.

Police Monday, Sept. 29, issued a press release seeking the public’s help in identifying the three men they said entered the property wearing clothing impersonating law enforcement. One of themn was armed with what was believed to be a semi-automatic handgun.

More than three dozen tips from the public came after photos of the men’s faces, obtained by a surveillance camera at the property, were circulated and published by the media statewide. The incident took place Sept. 21 at around 7 a.m., according to police, who are not identifying the exact location.

Two of the men have been identified as Jeffrey Hurd, 47, and Scott Roberts, 35. Both are from Glenburn, and are considered armed and dangerous.

Trooper Elisha Fowlie, in the press release, said that a warrant has not been issued for the third man involved
