Maine Approves Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

This week a milestone was met in the state of Maine regarding the recently approved Maine Medical Marijuana Act.  On November 3, 2009 Maine voters approved Question 5, which enacted the citizen-initiated bill, “An act to establish the Maine Medical Marijuana Act” (LD 975, IB 2). Since then there has been much speculation, controversy and anticipation amongst the Maine medical marijuana community to where dispensaries will be located and who will be allowed to run them.

Maine Proposal Allows Only 8 Marijuana Dispensaries

A legislative committee trying to implement Maine’s expanded medical marijuana law has agreed on a plan that allows up to eight medical marijuana dispensaries across the state.

Doctors Urge Caution in Prescribing Medical Marijuana to Kids

February 3rd, 2010

The Maine Association of Psychiatric Physicians is calling for a change in the state’s medical marijuana law aimed at providing more protections for minors. The law currently allows patients under the age of 18 access to medical marijuana with a doctor’s authorization for certain conditions. But Maine psychiatrists believe that kind of access poses longtime risks for some kids to develop psychosis and addiction.
