Medical Marijuana shows Increasing Support, Promise in Maine

“You’re not seeing the classic people who have dreadlocks and tie dye. But you see a lot more older people. You see a lot more people with gray hair a lot of professionals are saying maybe marijuana is right for me.”

Support for medical marijuana is increasing.  More than a thousand people came out for the Maine Home Grown Expo in Bangor, the largest pro-cannabis convention in New England.  Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine have held the event for the past three years.

Activists and other supporters say there’s still a long way to go in terms of legislation.

“We don’t think that it’s government’s place to be in the doctors offices,” says Paul McCarrier, the legislative advocate for MMCM.  “So we think that doctors should be able to recommend marijuana to help any sort of ailment if they think marijuana will help it.”

If a Maine doctor chooses to prescribe marijuana, there’s state criteria they must abide by
