AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – In a close vote, the Maine House has rejected a bill to legalize, tax and regulate the sale of marijuana for personal consumption for people over 21 years old.

Representatives on Friday voted 71-67 to kill the bill.

Portland Democratic Rep. Diane Russell’s bill calls for a referendum on the Maine legalization.

The measure came up as some other states allow the legal use of marijuana. Colorado and Washington have voted to allow pot for recreational use by adults.
