AUBURN — The girls were missing school for a doctors appointments anyway, so Stacy Lahr decided to let her daughters try and sell some cookies.

Girl Scout cookies, that is. For about 3 1/2 hours Friday, Madison Binette and her sister, Margaret Sidelinger, peddled cookies in a location that has proven to be a jackpot in some areas – in front of a marijuana dispensary.

From about 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the girls hawked cookies in front of the Remedy Compassion Center, a medical marijuana dispensary on Center Street. They set up tables and made their pitches to customers going into and out of the dispensary.

How did they do?

“We started with 92 boxes, left over from our door to door sales,” Lahr said. “We sold all but seven boxes.”

Not bad. That’s not quite up to West Coast standards, though – In San Diego, one young girl scout is said to have sold 300 boxes in six hours last month after setting up shop in front of a dispensary.

Lahr said Friday marked the first time they tried selling cookies at that location. Whether they go back depends on if they can get more cookies to sell.

Madison is a member of Girl Scout Troop 2470.
