MIDCOAST  In association with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., local law enforcement agencies will hold prescription drug collection events in coordination with the 8th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The free program aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

In addition, Camden, Rockland, Thomaston and Warren first responders are inviting the public to enlist in the Yellow Dot Program, which is designed to help first responders provide life-saving medical attention during that first “golden hour” after a crash or other emergency. A yellow dot (sticker) in the driver’s-side rear window of a vehicle alerts rescuers to vital medical information stored in a glove compartment.

And, some stations will be offering child car-seat inspections and fire safety awareness.

Locally, collection events will be held in Camden, Rockland, Thomaston, Union, Warren, Belfast, Searsport, Waldoboro and Vinalhaven as follows:

Older people tend to have more medications in their homes than any other age group, and this makes their medicine cabinets of particular interest to anyone using drugs.
