Branford to get medical marijuana dispensary, 1 of 6 in Connecticut

BRANFORD A site at 469 E. Main St. has been chosen as one of the first six dispensaries for medical marijuana by the state Department of Consumer Protection, the state announced Thursday.

The facilities will have authorization to legally dispense Connecticut-produced marijuana products to ill patients who have been certified by their physicians and who have registered with the state’s Medical Marijuana Program, according to a release Thursday by Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein.

When asked about the Branford dispensary, First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove said Thursday, “I don’t have a comment on that.”

Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Ellsworth McGuigan, said the dispensary, proposed by Bluepoint Apothecary LLC, was approved by the PZC in a 5-0 vote.

“The individual who was the pharmacist was very knowledgeable about and answered the questions of the commission very well,” he said.
