Northeast Patients Group has submitted a site plan to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Brewer, near the CancerCare of Maine center.

The nonprofit that holds licenses to operate half the state’s eight dispensaries has signed a lease and submitted a plan to city officials to establish a dispensary on Dirigo Drive, according to the Bangor Daily News. The plan also includes an area for cultivation, though further details will be shared when the group comes before the planning board, which could happen as early as January.

The nonprofit this fall signed leases to open dispensaries in Portland and Hallowell after months of delays due to a lack of funding. NPG has also established a marijuana growing operation in Thomaston from which it will supply its four dispensaries, with plans to establish a dispensary there as well. In August, the state signed off on a $1.6 million loan NPG brokered with Wellness and Pain Management Connection LLC, with backers including California-based The Farmacy Institute for Wellness and former NBA star Cuttino Mobley.
