PORTLAND – Scot Gisseman, a Gulf War combat veteran from the Oxford County town of Andover, said medical marijuana effectively reduces the pain and tremors he suffers from a parachuting accident that damaged his hip, caused a head injury and broke several bones.

Dr. Dustin Sulak, who operates a medical marijuana practice through Integr8 Health LLC of Falmouth, speaks to more than 250 people at an educational forum Thursday at the Woodfords Club in Portland. Sulak talked about the drug’s benefits and potential uses.

Dr. Dustin Sulak told a large crowd Thursday evening at the Woodfords Club that he most often treats chronic pain, saying patients seem to respond better to medicinal marijuana than to addictive opiates such as oxycodone.

Gisseman and his wife, Laura, were among more than 250 people who attended an educational forum on medical marijuana Thursday night at the Woodfords Club.
